6 Reasons Why to Eat Dirt Every Day

Blue-and-yellow Macaws and Scarlet Macaws at the clay lick

Yup, I EAT DIRT folks!

Every morning too!

Shut up! No, really :)

But not just any dirt, healing CLAYS. I’m sure once you read the reasons why, you will TOO!

But first, quick story how I first learned about eating clay.

Back in 2012, I traveled to Puerto Maldonado, Peru to volunteer at the Amazon Shelter to hang out with red howler monkeys. It was an AMAZING experience and there I learned about the Macaw Clay Lick.

EVERY DAY, flocks of beautiful macaws eat clay to help rid them of toxins. I was able to take a boat out to witness it. It was CRAZY beautiful! Tons and tons of birds, just going WILD for clay.

But it still didn’t click for me back then to do the same.

Why We Should Eat Clay

It wasn’t until last year that I learned more about ingesting clay and how not just animals, but many cultures worldwide do this old practice.

It makes sense though, we use mud masks to remove toxins from our face to become all pretty, so why not do it for the body too?

Let’s face it, no matter how clean we eat and live, we deal with toxins DAILY.

These toxins are the 6 reasons why to eat dirt every day:

1. Pathogenic Viruses

2. Pesticides

3. Herbicides

4. Heavy Metals

5. Parasites

6. Radioactive Substances

Whether we like to admit it or not, we are in constant contact with these toxins. That is why I am a huge advocate for doing daily detoxing. Eating clay helps reduce the inevitable interactions we have with toxins daily.

How Does Clay Help Detox

Healing clays have an ability to produce an “electrical charge” when mixed with water. The clay swells up and becomes a strong negative charged sponge that attracts and binds to the many toxins that are positively charged. The clay holds onto the toxins until it passes from the body through the digestive tract and out into the toilet. YAY!

How To Eat Clay

Well, I’m not hard core enough to straight up eat clay. I recommend drinking it.

I dissolve one teaspoon of edible clay in a glass cup of water. Currently, I am using bentonite clay from Aztec Secrets. Some sites mention using more than one teaspoon, but MORE is NOT BETTER. If you use too much, it could stick to your colon wall and create added constipation.

I prefer having it in the morning. I do this by mixing the clay and water first and letting it sit while I have my Zesty Lemon Delight. Then, afterwards I will have my bentonite clay water before having breakfast.

For best results do the following:

  • Do not let it come into contact with anything metal, as it will pull from it. Yes, it’s that strong! Use a glass cup and wooden or plastic spoon to dissolve the clay in the water.
  • Soak clay in the water for 30 minutes or longer to increase the electromagnetic charge into the water.
  • Take on an empty stomach and ideally don’t take within an hour of food to increase effectiveness.
  • Do not take within 2 hours of medications or supplements.
  • Consult with your doctor, if you have any medical condition.
  • Drink lots of water during the day to help flush out the toxins.

Now my question to you:

Do you drink dirt water? I would love to hear from you! Leave me a comment and let me know.
