HOLY CRAP was it super hot this past weekend in Riverside!!!
What is the most delicious way to cool down with a refreshing drink when you’re about to melt?
The WONDERFUL WATERMELON SMOOTHIE, of course! :)
This is one of my FAVORITE super simple yummy recipes. This quick and easy smoothie is tasty, delicious and healthy!
You just need one fruit, my favorite—WATERMELON. What you want to do is throw your watermelon into the fridge because you want it nice and chilled for the smoothie, so you can feel amazing while drinking it.
Then, you’re going to grab a handful of basil leaves. Now, don’t freak out thinking OMG how many leaves is a handful, be flexible and free and do how little or much you want. I promise you won’t screw it up.
That’s it for prepping! I told ya, super simple :)
Because this smoothie is AMAZING, get your big blender out. My vitamix can hold up to 8 cups and you’re going to want to fill it up too! If you don’t have a huge blender, no worries just fill it up as much as you can and add about 1/2 cup of water.
-8 cups of CHILLED watermelon
-1 cup of water
-handful of basil leaves
Combine all ingredients into a high-speed blender. Blend until smooth, approximately 10 to 15 seconds.
You’re going to notice it’s not really smoothie smoothie like and more juice like because watermelon has so much water in it. BUT, it’s still a smoothie because all of the fiber is still in there. This is good, good, GOOD for you because the fiber in the smoothie gets you flowing, going and makes you FULL :)
This is why I am calling it a smoothie juice.
The reason this smoothie juice is SO delicious is because of the basil. The basil’s bitter and earthiness compliments the sweetest of the watermelon to make it EVEN SWEETER! How amazing is that, right? You’re going to want tons of this watermelon basil smoothie.
Last but not least, you want to add some healthy fat. This can be either some hemp, chia, or flax seeds. This is because you have some green in your smoothie and whenever there is something green, you need some healthy fat with it to help better absorb the fat-soluble nutrients.
Don’t forget to chew this smoothie juice to activate natural digestive enzymes!
Now my question to you:
What do you think of this smoothie? What are some of your favorite smoothies to drink to cool down? I would love to hear from you! Leave me a comment and let me know.
