5 Cool Health Boosts of Sesame Seeds

sesame seed benefits
Today, I will be talking with you’ll about sesame seeds. Sesame seed is a complete health package food that contains protein, good fat, dietary fibre, minerals, and vitamins.

During the 12 Days of Holiday Cheer email series, I was reminded by Melissa one of the cool things about sesame seeds and wanted to add 4 more to it.

As well as, do a product review of one of my favorites, so you can get some more sesame seed-ness into your life!

1&2. Banish Anxiety to Relax AND Sleep Like a Baby

Sesame seeds have tryptophan. The body uses this essential amino acid to produce serotonin and melatonin, ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitters to help reduce pain, regulating sleep patterns and mood.

This is why when you eat TONS of turkey on Thanksgiving, you feel so good and all sleepy. It’s the tryptophan kicking in.

So, tryptophan is really good at assisting if you’re having trouble going to sleep and/or staying asleep.

Also, it eases your inner Piglet because it starts to calm your bootay down and relax you. Insufficient serotonin makes you anxious and depressed!

So, if you have either of these issues, you’re likely low in these two hormones.

3. Strong Bones and Teeth

Yup, we’re talking about calcium, which is also a stress-relieving mineral.

Everyone thinks of milk or dairy when it comes to calcium, but forget that! You can ditch that acidic dairy and trade up for some alkaline sesame seeds that help build bones and teeth and regulates blood pressure.

One tablespoon (9g) of  sesame seeds has 88mg of calcium, while 1 cup (244g) of milk has 305 mg of calcium. You can easily get your dose of calcium with sesame seeds and leafy greens (yes, they have calcium too).

4. Get Rid of Those Charley Horses For Good

I am talking about magnesium now. If you ever get a charley horse, that is a sure sign you’re low in magnesium. Say goodbye to those charley horse aka muscle spasm for good by loading up on some magnesium, also a stress-relieving mineral.

You could take a supplement, OR you can do it whole-foods base and grub on some sesame seeds.

5. Fight Fatigue

My ladies out there, we be losing it every month, so it’s extra important you’re not low in iron.

Iron is an essential nutrient that produces hemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that transports oxygen throughout the body. If you don’t have enough iron, your body has to work WAY TOO HARD to get the energy it needs, which can leave you feeling tired, weak, irritable and unable to focus.

Do any of these issues sound way too familiar? Then, you definitely want to add some sesame seeds to help combat it.

Besides just eating plain sesame seeds (which is still AHH-mazing), you can have it ground up finely into a yummy and creamy “butter” called tahini.

MMMM….you can easily drizzle tahini on salad, veggies, or on its own to instantly make your tastebuds drool.

I wanted to share with you about a tahini I recently discovered that I absolutely adore and is my new favorite, it’s Shirley Bar Living Ethiopian Tahini.

It’s all natural, raw, vegan and organic. But, best of all it’s high-quality. A lot of times I would try tahini and it would be way too bitter. Some reasons for the bitterness is that it went rancid, poor-quality seeds, over roasting, or etc.

But, when I tried Shirley Bar Living Ethiopian Tahini, it was so creamy, not bitter, and tasted so good! I never tasted tahini like this!

I reached out to Shirley herself and asked if she can give an awesome discount to you’ll and she said HELL YA!

So get in on this LIMITED discount for TWO 16 oz bottles of awesome creamy heavenly tahini for just $17.99 instead of $21.99 with free shipping. BUT, this is a limited time offer of only 2 weeks!

I hate missing out on deals, so don’t miss out on getting an awesome deal on my favorite tahini. I get nothing from it, I just truly love this stuff and think you’ll too!

Treat yourself and a friend to this yummy treat.

Great info! – another benefit is women use them in “seed cycling” in the luteal phase of the cycle because the lignans in sesame seeds can help the body bind excess estrogen, so eat up!
