5 Cool Health Boosts of Sesame Seeds

Today, I will be talking with you’ll about sesame seeds. Sesame seed is a complete health package food that contains protein, good fat, dietary fibre, minerals, and vitamins.

During the 12 Days of Holiday Cheer email series, I was reminded by Melissa one of the cool things about sesame seeds and wanted to add 4 more to it.

As well as, do a product review of one of my favorites, so you can get some more sesame seed-ness into your life!

1&2. Banish Anxiety to Relax AND Sleep Like a Baby

Sesame seeds have tryptophan. The body uses this essential amino acid to produce serotonin and melatonin, ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitters to help reduce pain, regulating sleep patterns and mood.

This is why when you eat TONS of turkey on Thanksgiving, you feel so good and all sleepy. It’s the tryptophan kicking in.

So, tryptophan is really good at assisting if you’re having trouble going to sleep and/or staying asleep.

Also, it eases your inner Piglet because it starts to calm your bootay down and relax you. Insufficient serotonin makes you anxious and depressed!

So, if you have either of these issues, you’re likely low in these two hormones.

3. Strong Bones and Teeth

Yup, we’re talking about calcium, which is also a stress-relieving mineral.

Everyone thinks of milk or dairy when it comes to calcium, but forget that! You can ditch that acidic dairy and trade up for some alkaline sesame seeds that help build bones and teeth and regulates blood pressure.

One tablespoon (9g) of  sesame seeds has 88mg of calcium, while 1 cup (244g) of milk has 305 mg of calcium. You can easily get your dose of calcium with sesame seeds and leafy greens (yes, they have calcium too).

    Great info! – another benefit is women use them in “seed cycling” in the luteal phase of the cycle because the lignans in sesame seeds can help the body bind excess estrogen, so eat up!
